Serevent

Serevent is an inhalation aerosol, manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline, which has been prescribed as an asthma medication and for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD), such as emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Shortly after the release of Serevent, reports of deaths and severe side effects associated with the drug began to surface. In 1996, the Salmeterol Multi-Center Asthma Research Trial (SMART) began to assess the safety of Serevent and its relation to serious asthma-related incidents. In January 2003, these results were announced, but Serevent, which clearly may induce asthma complications, continues to remain a treatment option for asthma.
