Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma is a disease that is almost 100 percent preventable, since the only known cause is through exposure to Asbestos, a mineral fiber that has been commonly used in a variety of building construction materials for insulation and as a fire-retardant. Asbestos fibers can irritate the mesothelium, eventually causing cancerous cells to develop. Mesothelioma is frequently fatal, as this form of cancer tends to metastasize, or spread, quickly to other organs and tissue.

The Environmental Protection Agency and other government agencies have banned several Asbestos products and manufacturers have also voluntarily limited uses of Asbestos. Still, Asbestos is commonly found today in older homes, in pipe and furnace insulation materials, Asbestos shingles, millboard, textured paints and other coating materials, and floor tiles.

The sad fact is many people suspected there was a link between Asbestos exposure and lung disease long before preventative measures were put in place. Many businesses made little or no effort to protect workers from breathing in Asbestos particles , putting profits ahead of health and safety. Yet many of these same companies continue to deny medical claims from former employees and their families who suffer from Asbestos-related illnesses.

The incidence of Mesothelioma rises with the intensity and duration of exposure to Asbestos. However, there are numerous cases of Mesothelioma among people with very little occupational exposure or even household exposure.

James F. Humphreys & Associates will not allow Mesothelioma victims to suffer with financial uncertainty. Our experienced attorneys understand the precedent for Asbestos and Mesothelioma-related cases, and can recommend the best course of legal action.
