Fraudulent HMO
Co-Payments

IHealth care in America is changing rapidly and understanding a medical or other insurance plan has become much more complicated. HMOs are the most common type of managed Health care. Currently, there is much concern regarding the injuries and deaths of HMO members caused by delayed care or denials as well as the management practices of physicians and the insurance carrier itself in regards to co-payments. Many physician offices require co-payment at the time of service. A co-payment is a cost sharing arrangement in which a person pays a specific charge for a specific medical service - for example $20 for an office visit or $10 for a prescription. But there are several circumstances where patients who had already paid their co-payments on the date of service inadvertently received a bill from the providing hospital or physician group for the same co-payment. Also, patients often report a co-payment waive by a physician, which is against the law and often performed in order for physicians to attract more patients. This fraud hurts the consumer in the end.
