How to Manage an Asbestos Problem

A Guide to the Neutralization of Asbestos Products

  • How to Manage an Asbestos Problem

If you find asbestos that is in good condition, leave it alone. If the material is disturbed, you can choose to either repair or remove it.

If you elect to repair the material, an asbestos contractor will seal or cover the material. Encapsulation will seal the material to ensure asbestos fibers are not released. Many pipes, boiler and furnace insulations are fixed by encapsulation.

Enclosure of an asbestos-containing material will build a structure around the material to stop fiber release from occurring. For instance, insulated piping can be covered with a protective wrap.

While choosing to repair the asbestos costs less, the material may eventually have to be removed.
