Asbestos is not only found in the workplace, but may also be present in your home. For example, houses that were constructed between 1930 and 1950 may have used asbestos for insulation. Asbestos can also be present in:
- Roofing and siding shingles
- Paint and patching compounds
- Artificial ashes and embers used in gas-fired fireplaces
- Stove-top pads
- Millboard or cement sheets
- Vinyl floor tiles and the backing on vinyl sheet flooring and adhesives
- Hot water and steam pipes
- Oil and coal furnaces
- Door gaskets
